With several white sand beaches in the vicinity, and palm trees lighting up the landscape, this is a spot where there is no shortage of stunning locations. Here you can escape the crowds and enjoy the calm and relaxed lifestyle which is typical of the region while seeing the rich cultural diversity of Sri Lanka up close.

All the rooms are decorated in a woody style with local elements, which gives them a welcoming atmosphere, enhanced by the magnificent Ocean view.
There is a spot right near the resort where you can satisfy your surfing needs. However, there is plenty more around. The Ahangama, Midigama and Welhengoda are some of the best waves on this coast and are very close to the Insight Resort. Between Ahangama and Midigama there is a spot called “The Rock” which is one of the best in the area, with a long and powerful left hander. This area is characterised by the amount of reef breaks and left handers, but also has some beach breaks. There is something for surfers of every level. If that isn’t enough just place your board on a tuk tuk and set out to explore the other peaks in the region.
This is also a good opportunity to relax in the shade of the many palm trees, but also to contact the local population, which is quite friendly and hospitable. If you take the time to learn a couple of Sinhalese words you’ll find yourself rewarded with plenty of smiles. The turtles are also a main attraction and there are several institutions for the protection of these friendly animals.
Further North is the Hikkaduwa resort, where you can find more surfing options and a lively night life, and above that is the financial capital Colombo, Sri Lanka’s most populous city, which is about an hour’s drive away and also worth a visit.
