Waves

The best waves for surfing

Agadir and Taghazout are two of Morocco's most iconic surfing destinations, known for their consistent waves and variety of spots along the Atlantic coast. Taghazout stands out for world-class waves such as Anchor Point, Killer Point and Boilers, which offer long straights, perfect for quick maneuvers and tubing. The region attracts surfers from all over the world, especially during the winter, when the Atlantic swell reaches its peak. For beginners, there are also beaches such as Panoramas or Banana Beach, with softer waves and surf schools. The diversity of conditions makes this area ideal for all levels of practice, in a privileged natural setting.

Seasons of the year

What is the best height
to enjoy the waves

The best time of year to surf in Taghazout is between the months of October and March. During this period, sea conditions are particularly favorable, with consistent and powerful waves arriving from the North Atlantic, providing excellent surf for intermediate and advanced surfers. Water temperatures vary between 17 and 20 degrees, and it is recommended to use 3/2 or 4/3 suits. The climate is mild and dry, with average temperatures between 18 and 25 degrees, which makes the surfing experience even more pleasant. It is at this time that some of the most iconic spots in the region operate, such as Anchor Point, Killer Point, Boilers and Hash Point.

In the months of April, May and September, the consistency of the waves decreases slightly, but there are still good conditions for surfing, especially for those who are starting or have an intermediate level. This season is also marked by a lower influx of surfers, which allows for quieter and less crowded sessions. The water temperature rises slightly, being between 20 and 22 degrees.

Tips

Some tips and material that we recommend

Surfboards

Take two to three plates, to be prepared for small days, medium days and bigger days or with more power.

Surfing material

You must wear ankle boots, neoprene suit. Don't forget to bring a repair kit, cold water wax and scraper, as well as leashes, cords, keels, and keel wrenches.

Sunscreen and sunglasses

Wear a high-quality, water-resistant, preferably reef-friendly SPF 50 sunscreen to protect the skin during long surfing sessions (solar radiation, at the Equator level, is particularly intense). Polarized sunglasses are also essential for days out of the water.

Plate Repair Kit

A small repair kit can save your day if there is any damage to your plate.

Personal pharmacy

Take essential or commonly needed medicines (it may be difficult to find them at the destination), including insect repellent, quick dressings and painkillers. A cream to treat skin irritations can also be helpful.

Clothing

For a trip between November and February, the ideal is to wear clothes that adapt to milder temperatures, with the possibility of cold, especially at night. Layered clothing is recommended, such as hoodies, pants and a waterproof jacket for the occasional rain. Don't forget accessories like a sun hat, as well as comfortable shoes.

Documents and money

Do not forget the passport with a minimum validity of 6 months on the date of travel, the visa, if necessary, credit/debit cards and some money in US dollars, which are widely accepted.

Cameras and drones

To capture the epic waves and stunning scenery, a waterproof camera is a must. If you like to film with a drone, pay attention to the mandatory authorization that you will have to apply to the entity that governs air navigation in the Maldives.

Local culture

The landscape of southern Morocco is a combination of the charm of the desert with the magnificence of the sea. All a few kilometers away from each other, being on a coast that invites you to surf and enjoy.
Moroccan cuisine is one of the most varied and rich in Africa. It combines flavors and millenary knowledge, adapting to the location where you are. In this coastal South, fish and seafood combine perfectly with traditional tagines. Not to mention the oyster one.
Morocco may even be just an hour's flight from mainland Portugal, but it's the entrance to an entirely different world. Religion, architecture and gastronomy could not be more different, but the common history also serves as an aperitif.
