The first Takeoff Surf Trip to Sri Lanka is officially on the calendar! Destination: Arugam Bay — home to some of the best waves in the country. Your host: Francisco Duarte, a Portuguese surfer who has lived in Sri Lanka for years. He’s always in good spirits, loves a great conversation, knows the best spots like no one else, and is deeply passionate about the local culture. He’ll be our surf guide for a trip that promises to be epic!
Bay Vista Hotel
A surfer’s sanctuary right in front of Arugam Bay. This family-run hotel offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere, complete with an on-site restaurant, yoga studio, and a rooftop terrace to take in the view.
Main Point
Just a 15-minute walk from the Bay Vista Hotel, you’ll find the biggest and most powerful wave in Arugam Bay. On its best days, it offers rides of up to 600 meters—truly unmatched in Sri Lanka.
Surfing nearby
Right in the bay, you have Baby Point and Main Point. Whiskey Point is just 20 minutes away, and to the south, you’ll find Crocodile Rock and Peanut Farm, both within 30 minutes. A driver is available!

A famous beach
Arugam Bay beach gained notoriety thanks to surfing. It is among the 10 best spots in the world, stretches for about 2 km of golden sand and is shaped like a crescent.
Kumana National Park
The program could not fail to include a safari to one of the main national parks of Sri Lanka, famous for its biodiversity and wildlife, where elephants, monkeys and leopards await you.

Kumana National Park
If you appreciate wildlife, especially birds, this is a spot you cannot miss. Spanning over 35,000 hectares, the park is adjacent to Yala National Park, another destination well worth considering.

Near the hotel, you can immerse yourself in history and religion by visiting ancient Buddhist and Hindu temples. It’s a trip that offers plenty of cultural charm.
